Slide occurs on northeast wall of Bingham Canyon Mine

South Jordan, Utah (April 11, 2013) – Kennecott Utah Copper’s Bingham Canyon Mine experienced a slide of its northeast wall on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 9:30 p.m. Preemptive measures were taken leading up to the slide. All employees are safe, accounted for and have been evacuated from the Bingham Canyon Mine.  

Movement was contained within the mine. As a result of ongoing monitoring with sophisticated geotechnical equipment, company experts identified the movement and took immediate actions prior to the event.

Ground movement is something experts monitor for daily. Kennecott personnel proactively took steps to ensure employee safety. Experts will evaluate impacts from the slide in the coming days.
