Kennecott Utah Copper is committed to finding creative solutions to generate electrical needs. By using a combined heat and power system, we are able to generate and capture steam to meet 50 percent of the refinery's electrical needs.

Molybdenum Autoclave Process (MAP) combined heat and power information brief- November 2010
The MAP CHP system, which is expected to be fully operational by late 2012, will displace six megawatts of electricity that would otherwise be purchased. The MAP CHP unit has been sized to meet the steam needs of the MAP facility and co-produce approximately 86 percent of the electrical needs for the first phase of the MAP project.
