As part of its operations agreement, Kennecott Utah Copper has a permit through the Utah Division of Water Quality (DWQ) to discharge water into the Great Salt Lake. Kennecott has never exceeded the amount of selenium it discharges into the lake, as mandated by the Utah Division of Water Quality, and it has worked hard to achieve a responsible discharge limit.
