Kennecott Utah Copper understands that exercising thoughtful stewardship over the land on which it operates is not only good for environmental sustainability, it makes for good business. Kennecott is dedicated to minimizing the impact it has on the land it mines, and where possible, returning impacted land to its natural state.

Kennecott Utah Copper owns and manages about 93,000 acres of land. While less than half of that area is disturbed by actual mining, the company takes its stewardship over this land and its resources very seriously. Inland Sea Shorebird Reserve
The Inland Sea Shorebird Reserve (ISSR) is the result of an aggressive reclamation project led by Kennecott Utah Copper, restoring once over-grazed land, salt evaporation ponds and illegal dumps into a beautiful 3,670-acre shorebird and waterfowl reserve along the south shore of Great Salt Lake for Utah’s shorebird and waterfowl population.
